Swing Tyne and Newcastle University Swing Society invite you to our end-of-year celebration in the beautiful Art Deco hall at Newcastle’s John Marley Centre.
Dancing, games, swingin’ DJ sets and LIVE music from House of the Black Gardenia
Join us and the Magpies of Swing for a great evening of music and social dancing with a fantastic line up of talent from across the Newcastle jazz scene. New songs, new faces and a good time guaranteed!
There will be space to dance and Swing Tyne DJs on decks the whole night in between live sets

Live music and dance classes in Newcastle this coming week
This Monday we have our regular Lindy and Bal classes:
In Lindy intermediate’s Elise and Alec will be working on mastering dancing on a dynamic and busy floor, be ready for anything! Beginners will be the 2nd week of Charleston, suitable for all
Balboa will be taught by Graeme and Sarah. Fundamentals will focus on throw outs from lollies and Improvers will show some more dynamic throwouts
Magpies of Swing
There will be no Magpies live music next Monday, but that’s because there’ll be a whole extra night of live music on Sunday! Oct 20th at the Globe will be a great night of live music and social dancing with the Magpies and Swing Tyne DJs, get tickets for the event here:
Finally, our friends at Hoodoo Blues have some live music and lessons this week too. On Friday there will be live music from Michael Woods, a local solo acoustic Fingerpicking, Ragtime Bottleneck & Blues Guitarist based with four well received albums under his belt to date.
Doors open at 7:15pm, dance class 7:30pm – 8:30pm, followed by social dancing till midnight.
We are back with a bang for Balboa on Monday with Sarah and Graeme: Newbies – intro to lollies Improvers – lollies variations with quicks, slows , pauses and direction changes
For Lindyhop at Summerhill we have the final Solo Jazz class with the fabulous Niffi at 7:30 followed by Swing Out fundamentals at 8:20 and social dancing from 9-10:30pm. See you there!

Then from 9pm it’s Social Dancing with live music from The Magpies of Swing!

It’s also the return of our regular Balboa lessons. Our 1st class is with Hilary and Elise for beginners at 19.30 then improvers at 20.20 at St Matthews Church
Blues dancing in September
If you are interested in learning to dance to blues music there are classes starting back Wednesday 4th September; 6:30 for intermediates and 7:30pm for beginners at Prohibition Cabaret Bar with our friends at Hoodoo Blues
There is also a weekend event Belta Blues happening 20-22 Sep. If you want to throw yourself into learning blues this is a good place to start. There’s daytimes workshops on Saturday or Sunday afternoon, and three nights of parties. You can sign up for the whole thing, or just go to the parties which includes a beginner friendly class.
Live musicality class on Monday and more blues dancing opportunities in Newcastle
Next Monday (19th) we will be having a live musicality class with the Magpies of Swing before the band’s set for social dancing. The class will be from 8:20 and there will be a fundamentals class as normal before from 7:30. Come along to learn how a swing band works and how this can help your dancing connect with the music!
If you enjoyed Hillary and Owen’s class on Slow Drag/Blues then get yourself along to Hoodoo Blues this Friday. Anders will be DJing and will be adding some tunes that you can dance slow drag to.
