Immy And Lujo
Immy started swing dancing in 2016 and finds the more she learns, the more she wants to learn and share. She enjoys both leading and following and is passionate about integrating musicality in each dance and connection to each dance partner.
Lujo stumbled upon swing dance by chance, decided to give it a go, and has remained an enthusiastic dancer ever since. Although a devoted follower of the “rigorous practice makes dancing fun” doctrine, he is well known for being the most approachable dancer on the dance floor.
Immy and Lujo started teaching Collegiate Shag together in 2023 when Lujo moved to Cambridge. Their aim as teachers is to help everyone feel comfortable and confident in their dancing as they explore and find their voices and the connection in every dance.
However, they believe that understanding the proper technique and rhythmic structures leads to more creative and fun dancing.
The classes are designed for both improvers and intermediates (Dancers who have been dancing for about a year and also those that want to improve/hone their technique). Or, an opportunity to learn the alternative role to your norm or switch!
These will be progressive and ensure that everyone attending will benefit.
We will explore fundamental techniques, movement, connection, quality of dance, core shag vocabulary, and variations that will enhance your individual level of dancing.
No dance partner is required however a balance of leads and followers is needed so there may be a wait list until an opposite role is booked.
The cost of this event will be £25 per person (£12.50 for concessions)
Tickets can only be pre-purchased to ensure that we are within the capacity of the hall. Book via the dance cloud link.
Dancers attending this 1 day workshop should then have all the skills ready for the improvers/intermediate workshop we’re planning for later in the year.
The class format will be 4 x 60 minutes of classes, with regular breaks and lunch, followed by up to an hour and a half of social dancing where you can hone and practice your moves!
Timetable for the day is:
10.30 doors open for arrivals.

12:00 short Break
12:15 – Lesson 2

Tea/Coffee and water will be provide.
We recommend bringing your own Lunch (no lunch provided) as local cafes/shop are limited and the lunch break will be 60 minutes.
Please bring Slippery soled shoes for dancing. Spare socks and a change of shirt always goes down well if you have been putting in a lot of effort and being considerate of your dance partners (and maybe some deodorant).
Concession prices are for those who are students/unemployed/ low waged, and we ask that anyone who can afford the standard priced tickets please purchase one. We are a non-profit charity so every £ paid is used for our dancing community.
No refunds will be given and No tickets are to be resold (you can re-allocate your ticket). Swing Tyne will try to sell your place and if successful a refund will be issued (up until the 23rd Sept 2024).
On Monday, it will be the last of our usual schedule until September!
For Final Balboa class of the summer, Chris and Mac invite you to an end of term Balboa Beach party!
In FUNdamentals we’ll be showing you some fun ways to start a dance, paddling around and promenading along the prom.
In improvers, we’ll be playing with beach pushes and sailor kicks.
Feel free to dress with a California vibe! We look forward to seeing what you come up with!
