Tomorrow at Swing Tyne

For our weekly classes tomorrow, we will have Mike and Phee teaching shag classes in St Matthew’s, and Owen and Hilary in Summerhill for lindy hop lessons. Social dancing this week will be accompanied by our favourite Magpies of Swing with another fantastic live set! Be sure to bring some cash to support the band and don’t miss out – the social starts at 9PM.

We would also like to offer our apologies to everyone who was disappointed by the last-minute change of venue on Thursday this week. We rely on the goodwill of the monthly social dance venues that allow us their use free of charge, which often means that event plans can be subject to sudden rearrangements. Our volunteers always do their best to immediately notify the community of any such changes via social media – make sure to connect with us on Instagram and Facebook for updates and live communications! And if you are interested in getting involved with volunteering, or joining the Swing Tyne committee, please do get in touch via email, direct message, or in person – we are always keen to have more people on board team Swing Tyne 🙂

See you soon!

Tonight at Swing Tyne

Tonight is bank holiday, and we will not have a lindy hop class! Instead, come along to Summerhill Bowling Club for themed classes on shag for balboa dancers, taught by Rachael and Joel. We will learn to dance shag in a small and relaxed way, making it perfect for dancers that like to conserve their energy on the social floor even to the fastest songs, or for those who need to be mindful of their joints and muscles.

Social dancing will start at 9PM with a set from the one and only Geoff! Be there or be square!

June Improvers+ Shag Workshop – Caroline & Joe

Saturday 7th June, St Matthew’s Church

We are super thrilled to announce our June improver+ workshop with visiting instructors Caroline and Joe. You can expect four hours of progressive content, from enhancing your fundamental technique all the way to learning exciting new variations.

Introducing our teachers:

“Joe started dancing in Manchester in 2016. Though his journey began with lindy hop, he quickly discovered his love for shag, with its fast movement and fun style. His teaching stomping grounds were at Manshagster, where he started out before moving his practice to Lancaster with teaching partner Caroline. Nowadays, you will find him teaching weekly classes at Swing North.

Joe is known to enjoy all swing dances as both a leader and follower, and switching dance styles at any tempo. When he isn’t attending local and international festivals, he is practicing footwork in his kitchen!

Caroline’s love affair with shag began shortly after she started dancing in Manchester in 2018. After moving to Lancaster, she continued to grow her passion by joining the local committee, travelling to events across the country and committing several evenings per week to her dancing. She is now back in Manchester teaching shag with dance partner Joe.

Caroline believes that, by creating a playful and relaxed class atmosphere, she can foster a better, more enjoyable learning environment. She takes care to encourage open dialogue, sharing, and experimentation in her classes. Her teaching approach is focused on helping students develop their technique by anchoring it to attuned connection with the partner and the music.”

Get your tickets on Dancecloud before they sell out. Check the event description for information about concessions, refunds, and facilities available at the event.

On Monday at Swing Tyne

This Monday is a special one! Rathish and Ewa will be teaching lindy hop in Summerhill at 7:30PM, but at 8:15 we will be welcoming a (hopefully) massive crowd of new dancers for our taster class in collaboration with Post-Modern Jukebox. Meanwhile, in St Matthew’s, Ian and Jan will be running our regular balboa lessons.

We will celebrate the night with a social dance with live music by our favourite Magpies of Swing. Can’t wait!
