Originally built in 1929 in the heart of the former mining community, with state of the art dance floor- one of the biggest sprung dance floors in County Durham- the centre still remains open providing vital facilities for its community.
Murray Rose is the selector, bring the choicest sides from 1920s, 30s, 40s and 50s, including jazz, swing and blues, all perfect for cutting some rug!
The Magpies of Swing are a collective of swing dancers, making music for you to dance to. “Giving the hits and near-misses of the ’20s, ’30s and ’40s the hottest work out since the Palomar Ballroom in L.A. burnt down(*)”, the Magpies play tunes and songs from Duke Ellington and Count Bassie, Ella Fitzgerald and Fats Waller and more besides.

It’s wet and cold outside so there’s lots of reasons to stay inside, and not venture out however as always it’s a warm welcome , fun, laughter and new things to learn here at SwingTyne and we hope to see you all there 💃🕺💃🕺💃

It’s an even week so it’s Collegiate Shag (and Lindy hop) week and for all those people who attended our St Louis shag workshop a chance to show off those new moves at the social afterwards.

Apologies if you’ve already been notified but not everyone is on FB / Instagram.
Please note the later start time of 14:00 hrs for the start of the Baloween social today.
