Location

St Mathews Church,11 Summerhill St, Newcastle upon Tyne NE4 6EJ

10:30am to 18:00

Teachers

Immy And Lujo

Immy started swing dancing in 2016 and finds the more she learns, the more she wants to learn and share. She enjoys both leading and following and is passionate about integrating musicality in each dance and connection to each dance partner.

Lujo stumbled upon swing dance by chance, decided to give it a go, and has remained an enthusiastic dancer ever since. Although a devoted follower of the “rigorous practice makes dancing fun” doctrine, he is well known for being the most approachable dancer on the dance floor.

Immy and Lujo started teaching Collegiate Shag together in 2023 when Lujo moved to Cambridge. Their aim as teachers is to help everyone feel comfortable and confident in their dancing as they explore and find their voices and the connection in every dance.

However, they believe that understanding the proper technique and rhythmic structures leads to more creative and fun dancing.

Level

The classes are designed for both improvers and intermediates (Dancers who have been dancing for about a year and also those that want to improve/hone their technique). Or, an opportunity to learn the alternative role to your norm or switch!

These will be progressive and ensure that everyone attending will benefit.

We will explore fundamental techniques, movement, connection, quality of dance, core shag vocabulary, and variations that will enhance your individual level of dancing.

No dance partner is required however a balance of leads and followers is needed so there may be a wait list until an opposite role is booked.

Cost

The cost of this event will be £25 per person (£12.50 for concessions)

Tickets can only be pre-purchased to ensure that we are within the capacity of the hall. Book via the dance cloud link.

Dancers attending this 1 day workshop should then have all the skills ready for the improvers/intermediate workshop we’re planning for later in the year.
