
Simon – Chair
The Chair coordinates and leads the Swing Tyne committee, acting as spokesperson where required. As with the whole committee and our ethos, all members are welcome to ask questions, make suggestions, volunteer or raise concerns that they have with the Chair.

Hilary – Treasurer
As the nominee on bank account, the treasurer pays invoices (venues, teachers, insurance, equipment etc). With the help of our Zettle payment system, they balance the books, producing quarterly and annual accounts, and review the financial viability of proposed events.

Esther – Secretary
Keeps the committee on track during meetings and takes minutes, tracks actions and generally helps with admin.

Mim – Welfare
The Welfare Officer is on hand for all members, keeping an overall eye on the welfare of our community. They can be contacted in-person or via our welfare web form and anonymously. Levant & Aidan – Lindy Co-ordinators
Coordinates and organises teachers for Lindy/Charleston lessons, giving direction for an overall lesson plan (based on four-week blocks), covering a range of of topics. Responsible for identifying new potential teachers and assisting improvement and development with current teachers via feedback. Plans and executes local Lindy workshop events.

Mike – Shag Coordinator
Shares the joys of this fun and occasionally silly dance! Coordinates volunteer teachers to deliver fortnightly Shag classes for all levels as well as organising occasional workshops. They take on board feedback from teachers and dancers to improve our Shag classes and a develop a syllabus for newer dancers.

Graeme– Balboa Coordinator
Coordinates and organises teachers for the lessons, giving direction for an overall lesson plan (based on four-week blocks), covering a range of of topics. Responsible for identifying new potential teachers and assisting improvement and development with current teachers via feedback. Plans and executes local Balboa workshop events.

Eden – Marketing & Communications
Responsible for promoting our wonderful array of dance events, including: lessons, socials, workshops and more via our social media platforms.

Owen – Web Coordinator
Manages this website and the other services we use to keep Swing Tyne running smoothly

Aidan – Volunteer/Door Co-ordinator
Organises volunteer rotas for opening up and closing down venues and to be the greeter for all visitors new and old. They ensure that the team are briefed on the dancer’s code of conduct, what’s happening, facilities, where to go and either taking payments or registrations.

Elise – DJ Coordinator
Keeps our members feet happy with tunes! Ensures our socials have a wide variety of DJs playing variety of tunes. Helps to support members keen to start DJing.
Committee Members Without Portfolio
We understand that a soft path onto the committee may be desired or that circumstances may mean existing members can’t take a more formalised role. This role is open anyone wishing to both frequently volunteer and come to meetings contribute to the diversity of voices at Swing.
Other roles and volunteers
The committee evolves each year, with new members (and on occasion roles) elected at the AGM. You also don’t have to be a committee member to contribute! We rely on volunteers to: open and close venues, take payments, move sound systems, bake, talk to potential venues etc. Whatever you can contribute, however big or small, we will be happy to hear from you.
Teaching
Swing Tyne relies on volunteer teachers for its weekly classes. We have prepared a teaching progression guide to support members interested in taking this step.
