We are back tomorrow with our regular schedule of lindy hop in Summerhill with Anders and Hilary, and balboa in St Matthew’s with Chris and Mac. Social dancing in Summerhill starts at 9 – we will be hearing sets from DJs Jane and Hilary.
We would also like to remind everyone that there are still some tickets left for our improver+ shag workshop in June – check out the Dance Cloud page for more details.
Lots of exciting stuff to look forward to in the coming weeks – starting tomorrow! It is bank holiday Monday, so we are only running one set of classes this week. There will be no lindy hop class – instead, we will have two shag classes for improvers and beginners at Summerhill. Social dancing will start at 9PM at usual, with DJ Harry serving up some hot tunes until 10:30PM!
On Thursday, we are back with our free monthly social dance at Revolucion de Cuba from 7:30 until 10:30PM – the usual event with your favourite local DJs.
On Friday, our friends at Hoodoo Blues are throwing their monthly beginner class and social dance. Pop in to Prohibition Cabaret Bar from 7PM onwards to have a boogie and meet lots of new people in a relaxing atmosphere of this iconic Newcastle jazz venue. Check out event page for details.
We are also excited to announce that tickets for our next workshop are now on sale! This one is for the shagsters – we have the brilliant Caroline and Joe visiting from Swing North to give us a day of improver level classes on the 7th of June. This Monday is a special one! Rathish and Ewa will be teaching lindy hop in Summerhill at 7:30PM, but at 8:15 we will be welcoming a (hopefully) massive crowd of new dancers for our taster class in collaboration with Post-Modern Jukebox. Meanwhile, in St Matthew’s, Ian and Jan will be running our regular balboa lessons.
We will celebrate the night with a social dance with live music by our favourite Magpies of Swing. Can’t wait!
Happy Easter! To get your bank holiday dancing fix, join us on Monday for lindy hop lessons with Alec and Elise at Summerhill. We are taking it easy this week with only one set of classes – there will not be any shag at St Matthew’s. The social at 9PM will have a Swing Tyne debut set by DJ Rachael!
Next week (the 28th) our fundamentals lindy hop class will be in collaboration with Post-Modern Jukebox, so expect to see lots of new faces We will also have Magpies coming back with another fabulous set.

We are back on tonight with balboa lessons in St Matthew’s and lindy hop in Summerhill!
We are also excited to announce our annual general meeting, which will take place on Monday the 17th of this month. There will be no classes on this day – instead, we will host a forum to elect the next year’s Swing Tyne committee and hear your feedback on the way things have been run this year. We are committed to always improving our organisation and helping this community flourish, so please join us and make your voice heard.
And to make this even more rewarding, we are happy to share that the Magpies of Swing will be playing at the social dance after the meeting! Come along in your springtime finest, vote, chat, and let’s have a boogie 😉
