Tomorrow night & Summer schedule

Join us tomorrow for weekly lessons! Chris and Mac will be teaching balboa at St Matthews, and Mike and Elise are in Summerhill for lindy hop. Social dancing will start at 9PM with DJ Harry!

We will be switching to summer schedule on the 21st, which means only one venue and two classes on Monday nights. Here is our timetable – we will be releasing class info every week as usual:

– 21 July: improvers and beginners balboa at Summerhill

– 28 July: improvers and beginners lindy hop at St Matthew’s

– 4 August: improvers and beginners shag at Summerhill

– 11 August: tap dancing at Summerhill

– 18 August: improvers and beginners lindy hop at Summerhill

Tomorrow at Swing Tyne

For our weekly classes tomorrow, we will have Mike and Phee teaching shag classes in St Matthew’s, and Owen and Hilary in Summerhill for lindy hop lessons. Social dancing this week will be accompanied by our favourite Magpies of Swing with another fantastic live set! Be sure to bring some cash to support the band and don’t miss out – the social starts at 9PM.

We would also like to offer our apologies to everyone who was disappointed by the last-minute change of venue on Thursday this week. We rely on the goodwill of the monthly social dance venues that allow us their use free of charge, which often means that event plans can be subject to sudden rearrangements. Our volunteers always do their best to immediately notify the community of any such changes via social media – make sure to connect with us on Instagram and Facebook for updates and live communications! And if you are interested in getting involved with volunteering, or joining the Swing Tyne committee, please do get in touch via email, direct message, or in person – we are always keen to have more people on board team Swing Tyne πŸ™‚

See you soon!

Tonight at Swing Tyne

Tonight is bank holiday, and we will not have a lindy hop class! Instead, come along to Summerhill Bowling Club for themed classes on shag for balboa dancers, taught by Rachael and Joel. We will learn to dance shag in a small and relaxed way, making it perfect for dancers that like to conserve their energy on the social floor even to the fastest songs, or for those who need to be mindful of their joints and muscles.

Social dancing will start at 9PM with a set from the one and only Geoff! Be there or be square!

This week at Swing Tyne

Join us on this lovely mid-May evening for some dancing! In St Matthew’s, Mike and Rachael will be doing collegiate shag. Be sure to get some practice in before the fast feet brunch social this Sunday. This is a fantastic, free entry, beginner-friendly event at the Holy hobo organised by local dancers who love balboa and shag and want to share the joy of these dances with the community, and everyone is welcome.

In Summerhill, Hilary and Anders will be teaching Frankie Manning-themed lindy hop classes to celebrate Frankie’s birthday – check out this video to hear him talk about lindy hop history.

At 9PM, we will have a fabulous social dance with live music by the Magpies of Swing! Don’t miss out.
